Freycinet Peninsula
The Freycinet Peninsula is covered in the beautiful
Freycinet National Park, which continues over onto Schouten Island.
The park is made up of fantastic beaches, beautiful wildflowers,
and plentiful wildlife.
At the entrance to the Freycinet Peninsula is
Coles Bay and the fantastic hazard, which are 300 metre high,
pink, granite outcrops. You can also find the Moulting Lagoon
Game Reserve, which is home to black swans and wild ducks.
Further within the park are some truly magnificent
walks. The longest would probably be the peninsula circuit which
is a 27km walk, although you can also follow several shorter routes.
A walk you must not miss is the 3-hour trek to the remarkable
Wineglass Bay. If you have time for only one walk make it this
one. However, whatever walk you follow you must make sure that
you sign on and off at the booth in the carpark.
There are also plenty of adventure tours around
the park, where you can get involved in activities such as abseiling,
kayaking, rock climbing and other activities.
You can get petrol and supplies on the peninsula
from the information centre and store, and the Iluka Holiday Centre.
There are plenty of places to stay, including camping grounds,
backpackers and lodges.
