Since 1968 Arkaroola has been a privately operated 60,000 hectare wildlife sanctuary and tourist resort developed in harmony with the environment. The award winning Arkaroola Village provides motel and caravan/camping accommodation plus many activities for visitors to enjoy.

In keeping with Arkaroola’s dedication to the environment, it has achieved an Advanced Eco Tourism rating for its Ridgetop tour, Waterhole tours and Astronomical Observatory tours. This is only achieved if strict guidelines are met regarding environmental impact of the tours, and also if education about the environment during the tour is correct and consistent with good practices.

In the immediate area visitors can see old mining sites, waterholes, stone arrangements, remnants of the pastoral industry and the radioactive Paralana Hot Springs, 27 kilometres north of Arkaroola Village.
